Benny Wins Ultramarathon. Congratulations!

As most of us slept through the night of 31 May, our Vice-President Dr Benny Goh was pounding 84 km of Singapore's roads to win the Adidas Sundown Ultramarathon. Looks like all the Tonkatsu I saw him wolfing down after his "warm-up" at the Nagano Marathon in April did the trick! Our congratulations to you Benny...... I know you said you did not like the photo taken at the finishing line, but you are excused from looking your best after running for 7 hours and 36 minutes!

At our well attended 9th Bienniall General Meeting at Xin Cuisine on 5th March 2009, that was followed by excellent food to celebrate our 10th Anniversary, a new committee was elected to office::

9th Biennial General Meeting 5 March 2009

President’s Report

The main focus of your committee for 2007-2009 has been on three activities. Providing a continuing education program, setting up our Society’s website, and organization of the
6th Joint SES-MES Scientific Meeting in August 2008.

I am pleased to report that we have achieved our goals. Our SES website went live in April 2008. Our URL is : www.endodontics.org.sg hosted by Vodien Internet Solutions. The FAQ however, is still empty and it would be good if we can get volunteers to provide information to the public. When the website started, all ordinary members were listed in the section “Obtaining Endodontic Treatment”. However, with the specialist register now in place, your committee has decided that it would be more appropriate to list only members on the specialist register and those with recognised specialist training in endodontics.

Our continuing education depends on members contributing to lectures, or leading literature reviews or case reviews etc. I urge all members to contribute in this respect. With a small membership base, we all have to carry our weight!

With all the gloom and doom that the global economic crisis brought in 2008, we were fortunate to be able to host a successful joint 6 th SES-MES scientific meeting. We enjoyed very good corporate sponsorship that enabled us to bring in a good array of foreign speakers, to supplement our own. There was also a great mix of participants from the region. For the first time we also organized a pre and post conference hands-on course that was sold out.

I am happy to report that our society is in a good financial position. I would like to place on record my gratitude to the enthusiastic and hardworking committee that has made this possible, and to National Dental Centre and National University of Singapore for providing us with meeting facilities.
