SES-MES Scientific Meeting Limited Attendance Workshops

Workshop1:

Microendodontics & Microsurgery : Staying on the Cutting Edge of Endodontics

Lectures & Hands-On Workshop in Non-Surgical & Surgical Endodontics
Conducted by: Dr. Leslie Ang , Consultant Endodontist, National Dental Center , Singapore

Duration: Full day

Date: Friday 29 th August 2008

Venue: National Dental Centre, 5 Second Hospital Avenue, Singapore 168938

This pre-conference hands-on workshop is specially designed to build dentists' confidence in treating common clinical problems using the microendodontic and microsurgical approach . At the end of the course participants will be able to incorporate their new skills into their practice immediately. Learn microendodontic techniques to treat difficult cases with a higher degree of confidence and success. . Participants will learn about the latest clinical techniques and equipment used in Microscopic Endodontics and Microsurgery to overcome difficult cases in endodontics.

Problems and Solutions in Endodontic Complications:

  1. Learn how to remove fiber or carbon posts safely and reliably.
  2. How to remove fractured posts and posts cemented with resin cements.
  3. Treat Perforations or procedural errors that happen during retreatment or access using the internal matrix technique
  4. Decide when to remove a post and when to do surgery.
  5. Remove tightly bound thermafil carriers, silver points or obstructions in root canals
  6. Use the latest Niobium Titanium ultrasonic instruments to remove separated or broken instruments in root canals

Learning objectives in molar root canal treatment:

  1. Understand how to use the operating microscope for root canal treatment
  2. How to find and instrument calcified canals with greater precision. Participants can explore and learn about the best ultrasonic tips for uncovering missed or calcified canals.
  3. Understand why the technologically advanced Titanium Niobium ultrasonic tips are superior to regular titanium or steel tips
  4. New designs of ultrasonic tips: How to use them effectively for irrigation and disinfection

Problems and Solutions in Achieving Anesthesia:

  1. What to do when local anaesthesia fails during endodontic microsurgery
  2. Learn how to anaesthetised the severely inflamed lower mandibular molar that resists anesthesia
  3. Know the principles on the use of local anesthetics to manage pain after surgery

Understanding Endodontic Surgery:

  1. How to choose between Retreatment or Surgery
  2. Using the Surgical Operating Microscope in endodontic surgery
  3. Current concepts in apicoectomies
  4. Ridge augmentation in endodontics
  5. Understand the science of Intentional Replantation versus Transplants versus Implants

Workshop 2:

Endodontic Rotary Instrumentation and Irrigation : Using Modern concepts to Solve Problems in General Practice

Conducted by: Dr. Leslie Ang , Consultant Endodontist, National Dental Center , Singapore

Duration: Half day. 2 sessions available-morning or afternoon.

Date: Monday 1 September 2008

Venue: National Dental Centre, 5 Second Hospital Avenue, Singapore 168938

This post conference Comprehensive Workshop on endodontic rotary instrumentation will feature the science and practice of root canal instrumentation with 4 different systems, namely (in alphabetical order) K3 files , Protaper Universal files, Protaper Universal Retreatment files, RaCe files, S-Apex files. Understand the use and benefits of Ultrasonics in non-surgical root canal treatment. This course is specially designed to build confidence in dentists when using rotary engine driven Ni-Ti files in routine endodontic treatment.  Molar root canal treatment is never easy but learn about today's scientific advances that may help you overcome your clinical problems. Discover why and how to make a safe and effective transition from finger rotary instrumentation to engine driven rotary instrumentation. Understand and incorporate modern concepts of nickel titanium rotary instrumentation into your practice to make root canal treatment faster, efficient and cost effective for greater job satisfaction. Topics covered will focus on problems encountered during molar root canal treatment and retreatment. The course will also include reliable microendodontic techniques to find calcified canals. Learn how to disinfect canals contaminated with enterococcus faecalis during retreatment.

The course objectives:

  1. Learn about the evidence based approach on the safe use of rotary nickel –titanium files during root canal instrumentation.
  2. Understand the important role of ultrasonics in non-surgical endodontics
  3. Learn modern techniques to overcome the problem when your Ni-Ti file refuses to go down to the full working length
  4. How to treat calcified canals and ledges
  5. Why and how to change from manual or finger rotary instrumentation to engine driven rotary instrumentation safely & effectively
  6. Use current scientific evidence associated with rotary nickel titanium file instrumentation to prevent procedural errors in your practice
  7. How to use rotary nickel-titanium files in retreatment
  8. Empower participants with the instrumentation skills to confidently apply their new skills into their daily practice immediately.
  9. Give participants an opportunity for an interactive problem-based learning experience
  10. Ultrasonic irrigation as a means of disinfecting canals

All instruments and equipment for instrumentation, irrigation, etc will be provided.
